WOMAN ATTACKED WHILE WALKING 

EARLY IN THE MORNING

On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Emergency Communications received a call for an attempted sexual assault in the 900 block of Sedley Road in the Green Run section of the city.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was walking in her neighborhood and observed a male dressed all in dark colored clothing.  She noticed the suspect several times while on her walk.  A short time later the victim was approached by the suspect at gunpoint and forced into the yard of a home on Sedley Road where he attempted to sexually assault her.  A neighbor heard the woman crying for help and went to assist her.

The suspect is described as a black male, possibly in his teens, 5’11”, with a slender build.  He wore a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and long dark colored basketball shorts that came to the middle of his shins.  There was also a white triangle shaped emblem on the left side on the shorts.   

Anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).  Callers remain anonymous and could be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward if their information leads to an arrest.

This case remains under investigation by the Department’s Special Victims Unit with Detective Lanis Geluso as the lead investigator.

Please remind residents to be very aware of their surroundings and again, to remember the "buddy system" when out and about during times when others may not be around - especially if it is dark outside.  Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any additional information on personal safety.

CRIME ALERT!!

Please alert Green Run residents about the following burglaries that occurred yesterday:

Burglary Residential, occurred on 01/19/12 sometime between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of Woodbridge Trl.

Victim returned home and discovered that unknown suspect(s) forced open the front door and entered his residence. Clothes were thrown all over the floor. Neighbor states 2 B/M’s banged on her door earlier and she watched them go into the back yard but she didn’t call the police. One of the suspects was wearing a black hoodie and had dreads. The other was wearing a grey hoodie and had a pit bull. The suspect vehicle is a green 4dr, unknown make or model. Property was taken from the residence.

Burglary Residential Attempt, occurred on 01/19/12 sometime between 11:02 a.m. – 11:07 a.m. in the 3400 block of Poppy Cres.

Officers responded to an alarm and met with the key holder. The house was cleared. When the rear was checked a window was found broken with a brick.

Please urge residents to call Police immediately if they notice any suspicious activity.  As you can see in the first case above, a witness noticed the two suspects going around to the backyard after banging on the door, but never called Police.  Those residents that are home during the day could help us out a lot by being extra “eyes and ears” in the community.  Just looking out for neighbors on their street that are gone to work during the day, calling in suspicious individuals/activity to Police, taking a drive or walk around their block and calling in anything out of place would be a huge help to us.

DREDGING OF GRHA

Dredging of Green Run Information Night, Jan. 10th, 7pm at the Rosemont Elementary Cafeteria

 It will be located in the Cafeteria of Rosemont Elementary.  This will not be set up as a “meeting” but will have maybe 3 informational stations for residents to walk around with staff available at each station to answer questions.  Two stations will be dedicated to the Lake that will be dredged first and another station to discuss the remaining lakes in Green Run. We will also have handouts available at the meeting for resident to take with them regarding our dredging efforts in Green Run.
